My weekend started out with a sleep-in. Oh, it was good! It feels a little strange to sleep late only on a Saturday, now that I can also legitimately sleep longer on weekdays, but it doesn’t feel ‘right’ getting up late during the week. Makes me feel lazy! Anyway, breakfast this morning was some cauliflower oat bran with chia seeds mixed. I’ve missed my chia! I recently bought the black seeds (I’ve only ever tried white). I don’t think there’s really any nutritional difference between the two varities. Does anyone know?

Today was a busy busy day! Straight after breakfast, I was out the door and off doing some grocery shopping. We went to Aldi and I really like it there – they have different brands from other supermarkets and are always really cheap. We bought a TV from there once! Yesterday we saw an add for a computer! In Australia, grocery stores generally only sell groceries - not electrical appliances. So this always amuses me
After my Aldi visit I went to the gym and did some cardio on the bike and elliptical for about 40 minutes. It needed to be a quick workout because I had important plans for the rest of the day!
When I got home, I guzzled down a green monster. I’m not sure how everyone else manages to get such lovely green hues in their GMs. I had a little bit of chocolate protein powder in there that probably contributed to the swampy green colour. I wonder, if you attempt to make a green monster, and it comes out brown, is it still a green monster? A tough qestion…

I’ve not had a lot of success with GM’s before, but I really enjoyed this one. It was comprised of:
- 2 big handfuls of raw spinach
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 4 strawberries
- 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 2 tablespoons cottage cheese
- ice
In the afternoon I went to my friends’ house – a set of twins – who were celebrating their 24th birthday. I’ve been friends with the girls since high school and love them to pieces. One of the twins studies medicine in another State and comes home occasionally. Their mum is amazing in the kitchen and yesterday, made some ‘fairy cakes’ for us to enjoy for a birthday afternoon tea.

Aren’t the little wings adorable? These were really yummy!
The girls gave me a belated birthday present – a box of chocolates. I gave the girls some chocolate too! Great minds… Usually we buy each other proper gifts, but this year we decided that something token was enough. Next year when I’m working, I’ll definately be buying the girls something more substantial! Do you buy presents for your friends on their birthdays?

Dinner was a piece of lovely salmon and the best cabbage salad EVER. I know, I know…. cabbage? Doesn’t sound that exciting, but I love this salad so much. I think dad uses white vinegar and a little sugar in there. In any event, it’s really good. We also had some sweet potato fries with dinner (which were still in the oven at the time of photo-taking).

So I had a pretty quiet Saturday night. At least when I was studying, I had an excuse for not going out. But I don’t really have any excuse now. Is it weird that I prefer to watch Boston Legal instead of hitting the town?!
It’s going to get some getting used to with your new time to post! I usually always read your blog right after I’d get back from the gym in the morning (which I guess would be right about ten p.m. your time), but now I’m reading it at ten p.m. my time! Such crazy time differences.
I usually always made my friends something for their birthdays- a mix CD, framing a picture of us in a really nice frame, etc etc. I’ve never really bought anyone anything too impress, come to think of it. Hm…
That salmon looks delicious!
Should say “I’ve never really bought anyone anything too impressIVE…” Silly typos.
LOVE salmon and LOVE your GM. I don’t think it matters what color it is. As long as your got your greens in there, it’s a green monster to me. Heather (HEAB) and I have talked (she talked, I read
) about white vs. black chia seeds. I would ask her!
Have a glorious day girl!

It still counts as a green monster in my opinion!
Those cakes look adorable and the chocolates look amazing!
the fairy cakes are so adorable! and i feel the same way about sleeping in. it makes me feel lazy! i’ve actually lost the ability to sleep in, because i wake up pretty early during the week. to me, 7:30 is sleeping in. that’s about when i got up today.
maybe your green monsters don’t come out as green as others (take a look at the GMs in my last couple of posts, they’re practically neon!) because of the fruit you’re using. i use mango, which is a bright fruit, so it makes the smoothie pretty vibrant. in yours, the red from the strawberries and the light yellow from the banana aren’t the type of colors that would bring out the green in spinach. that’s my take on it anyway. but regardless, it’s still a green monster! i also use soy milk in mine, and no ice. that could make a difference, too.
and i don’t think your saturday night is weird at all. mine has been really relaxing too! i like laying low a lot of the time.
have a good rest of your night!

First off-Happy Saturday!and Hooray for weekends!
Your fairy cakes are so cute. ;P
Hope your weekend is wonderful!
With Love,
Emily
I had no idea chia seeds came in white! do they taste the same?
Those butterfly fairy cakes take me back- I LOVE thm and used to have them at all my birthday parties! My friends and I don’t usually get each other gifts- instead we get cards and take each other out for dinner or something
Can’t beat quality time with friends!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
There is definitely no difference between the black & white chia seeds so don’t be fooled!! I always get my chia seeds from TheChiaSeed.com because the seeds are great and the price is right. You should never be without you chia seeds!
You use the same amount of green in your smoothie as me..so I’m not sure why yours isnt very green! It must be the choclate powder… but it looks yummy still!
Those fairy cakes are cute..what are they?
Oh and I am drooling over your salmon. It looks perfect.. and I am picky about how my salmon is made!!
I hope youre having a great weekend!
I love cabbage salad. My former housemate is Hungarian, and his mum used to make him the most delicious food that he’d invite me to share whenever he brought it home with him
Sooo yummy.
hi girlie,
id say the sleeping in will take some time to get used to but enjoy it
i wish i could! i wake up naturally around 7am or earlier everyday….
dinner looks delicious, i love salmon! and cute cupcakes! i like that you and your friends just gave eachother token gifts..its a nice idea! and those chocolates look so good
we have an aldi over here too! but ive only been once, theres another shop cald lidl that sells the exact same stuff though!
sometimes a night infront of the tv is so much better than a night out when your not feeling it, just enjoy relaxing hun
I totally understand you when you said that sleep in made you feel guilty and lazy… I’m this way too, but after a week or two I got used to it and it was fine!
those cupcakes are sooooo lovely~~~
I do buy gifts to friend, but only to close friends, not necessarily on their birthdays, but nothing too expensive, so I think a box a chocolates is good!
and I’m sooooo agree that saturday night doesn’t need to be spent on crazy parties, watch a good movie at home is much more enjoyable!
mm green monsters
love ‘em!
where do you buy your chia seeds..i can’t seem to find them anywhere!
No way, you should soak up your nights in!! I think the real lame-o’s are the ones who go out just because they feel like they have to
That’s what I tell myself anyways, because I love getting in my jammies and vegging out on a Saturday night.
Seeing what colour my smoothies turn always entertains me. Sometimes I try to guess, and I’m often wrong!
I loooove coleslaw salad. I’ve only ever had it in my travels down south, but I’ve been known to eat a heaping plate full
I feel lazy if I sleep in as well! That’s why I’m glad I’ve trained my body clock
Those fairy cakes are so cute!! The center looks so creamy!
Love the fairy cakes!
I usually automatically wake up at 7 or 8 on weekends, even if I go to bed late. but I was so tired last night that I slept till 9!
There’s an Aldi’s near my house, but I’ve never been to it. Funny that you have the store too. What other American stores do you have? Do you have Walmart or Costco or Carre Four (A French chain that I went to in Taiwan)?
love the little fairy cakes! i’m totally the kind of person that would usually rather staying in than hitting the town. no worries.
Sleeping in is wonderful isn’t it? I know what you mean about it not feeling right about sleeping in on a weekday- I feel the same
Great workout!
That’s great you had a blast at your friends’ b-day party- the food looks fabulous!!
Have a great one!
Super cute fairy cakes…so tiny and delicate!
Your chia/cauliflower oats are such a pretty color. They almost look pink in the photo
Fairy cakes = so adorable! And you’re right..chocolate is such a great gift!
I haven’t had fresh salmon in a long time (I live off the canned stuff).
Hope you had a great rest of the weekend!
I just discovered your beautiful blog, and I’m so glad I did! Your meals are so fresh and beautiful – I especially love your scrumptious-sounding green smoothie!
Oh my gosh I want a fairy cake! So cute!!
And I had sweet potato fries today, too.
those fairy cakes are SO pretty! And so are you birthday token chocolates!
I don’t usually give my friends gifts either…I mostly bake something extravagant for them, or treat them out to dinner!
those fairy cakes are so cute! i sometimes do gifts for my friends, it depends on what else we have planned, sometimes its just dinner or wine or a night out together
